The psychological impact of the disease

The psychological impact will be numerous and involved both the patient and his support. This is for everyone to live and adapt to a major upheaval.

The different stages of acceptance "of the disease are more or less long, and are not linear. It can at times come back at some stage. The patient, family and friends may not progress at the same pace. The evolving nature of the disease, regularly involving further loss of capability, adds to the difficulty of this sequence.

Rejection:

Denial is a psychological defense mechanism we do not control. It can be total, the patient or the entourage denies the reality person, but usually it is only partial. In this case, people are able to reason about the disease, but in sure respects, they are again as if there was no disease. The shockwave and denial in the same group as denia.

Antagonism:

Often, before fully considering the reality of the disease, the patient or his family will go complete an anger stage against what happens. It is a way to fight beside  a painful reality. This is regularly a point where one seeks a manager. It was at that dated there was the most conflict or ruptures within the family or friends group. It is also expressed to the medical field, where true elements of dissatisfaction will add to this anger.

Guilt:

Guilt is unique to close to the sick person. Antagonism, following the awareness of the disease, is also a time where the events that occurred before diagnosis are lit from another direction. By better understanding the Discrepancies and past behavior of the patient, the near back on his own outlooks, is alleged to have done wrong, not having understood. It can then be a very strong sense of guilt.

Depression:

The next step is accompanied by depression. If it's often difficult step, it is essential and even healthy. It's normal to be sad, to be resigned. The patient or his relatives may have wanted to cry or need to talk about what happens to them, to understand, to make intelligence of the event.

Acceptance:

The last step, everyone does not, is called acceptance. This is a term that can be confusing and strike the closest. It's not denial. This is to recognize that the disease is here, it is no longer possible to "as before" and that it has no choice but to "make do".

It is at this point that the entourage will be able to adapt, better organized to accompany the sick person. Worth, difficulties are still there, but we can deal with all of its judgment and reasoning abilities.

The counseling:
The psychological impact of the disease is often violent, either for the patient herself, to his nearby family caregiver or globally. To achieve the best stage of "acceptance", so do not hesitate to seek the support of a professional third party, especially a psychologist.
